On their website, the group describes itself as a “grassroots coalition of concerned citizens, united to uphold the rule of law and protect our democracy”.
One of the members, Jack Waugh says they have managed to get a couple thousand signatures, but he could not reveal the actual figures.
He said: “I think it’s important to note that Mr. Trump is impeached and convicted upon impeachment because he has violated important provisions in the constitution.”
Waugh said it is important that Trump be impeached because if he doesn’t, future presidents will have a precedent, adding that he doesn’t personally see the impeachment of Trump as a way of getting a Democrat to be president because “they are not honest people”.
Trump has already been impeached twice, first on December 18, 2019 and the second time on January 13, 2021, but in both cases he was not removed from power. He is the only president that has been impeached twice.
Another member of the Mayday Movement who spoke on condition of anonymity said they are hopeful that they will have the required number of signatures for the impeachment of Trump before the end of the year.
“Our end goal will be to continue on the impeachment. We’re going to promote anti-fascist and authoritarianism activism pretty much anywhere that we can,” he said.
